I am sure if you ask many what their worst fear is, they would all say falling with your entire body on the floor in a public place. But for me, falling is no longer an issue, as it appears that the majority of places I have visited I have tripped or fell face down on the floor. There is this particular occassion I would like to blog about only because it was the most recent. Like really really recent.
You know how it is ladies when you are travelling, and you try to look your best. For me there is no such thing as travelling light. Even if its for a few days, you need to have 3-5 possibilities of what to wear for each time of the day. For example evening wear, you might decide to go out on a nice evening out, a fish and chips takeout, or stay home and eat what I've cooked, either way, these are 3 events, and each has possible outfits. So basically, the long and short of it is I don't know how to travel light.
So on this particular day, I had waited a little while to get my excess loaded luggage, and it was a struggle to get it out of the baggage handler. Normally I feign lack of strength and others around tended to help, but this day no one did. There was no way I was going to try and lift it onto a luggage carrier; now that would have snapped my back in two (you see I am 5Ft. 3 inch, and the suitcase was almost as tall as I am), so I decided to roll it on its wheel. As I attempted to roll the baggage, my high heeled shoe got caught on the rollers, the case fell, overpowered me, and took me with it, exclaming "shame" as I fell, and there I was on the floor yet again. I knew people saw me, we had all just arrived on a fully packed international flight, so everyone saw me, but it was a normal occurence so I picked myself up, and brushed off the dirt, repositioned my case and was about to walk on when this black brother came to me. He didn't come to help, he came just to tell me he liked what he saw and gave me a card. Well, no award for telling you what came next. The customs people came quickly to ask me if I'd been given anything to bring, and insisted I opened my bag. Basically it was an experience and I wish I could say never to be repeated but knowing me you just never know.

HA! "He like what he saw," that had me laughing in shock. Some people sha, rather than helping u to ur feet. That brought a weird kinda smile to my face.
I fell also at a party once when i was about 16. On this day, i was wearing an above the knee gown, that hugged me tightly. Anyways, i was reclining my seat, so in a way, i contributed to the fall. Omo mehn, potential toasters and co were at the party. According to my sister, she said at first, i fell "yakata" then suddenly, i closed my legs together. According to her, that was falling with style and grace. Instead of them jelping me to my feet immediately, they burst out laughing before someone pulled me to my feet. Me that i was doing shakara before, let's just say the party ended early for me.
xoxo - that was so funny, I couldn't stop laughing, theres me thinking my shakara pass others.
LOL!!!!!!! Hilarious!!!!!!
@XOXO That was HILARIOUS AS WELL.... "yakata" LOL!!!!!
Hahahahaa ...Mehn am laffing at both of ya (Life of a stranger and Xoxo)..Ol boyeee ...that was some fall I would say.
Men what was the guy refering to that he liked, cos am lost a little with that one.So he wants to say he did not see u until during ur fall abi.
Am still laffing like an hyena here o ...I remember we used to make gurls trip back in school. We have like a trail that leads to the biggest Faculty in school(Social Sciences Faculty)and we always make fun of all the gurls passing and u know when a gurl sees a lot of boys looking at her and commenting, she will always miss her step sha ni.
@NB: So u were part of the crew, that used torment a girls? Well done. I remember my 1st year at Obafemi Awolowo Univ. in Ile-Ife, there was this notorious Guy's dorm, Awolowo hall, those guys are crazy.
On this day sha, i was going my merry way, infact meself i knew i was looking too bunz that day. Busy catwalking, i didn't know i was being scoped out by the oppressors from the balcony. To cut the long story short, they were tryna catch my attention, "Fine sister, Hayes, Miss Nigeria", u know how u guys do it. Of course, i ignored them. Next thing i knew, about 6 of them came downstairs and surrounded me, saying mean stuff. I just started crying. One of them took pity on me, and told them to leave me. I didn't miss my step o, but i cried like a baby. I was scared silly. I never walked through Awo again.
All right, you guys just made my afternoon with all ya comments. Cutie mi, at 5'3 no dey carry big bag o. Just kidding jare. O'boy that post got me rolling on the floor.
how do I do it??
bwahahahah!! WOW.. you had me laughing. wow.
lol@ the guy liking what he saw and handing you his card!
XOXO.... your story had me LOL!
@ dipo - I think I've done what you suggested. concerning the brother, I thre his card away after I got through customs.
@NB - yey I am so glad that never happened to me imagine I will be falling every day.
@LondonBucki, temmy, Belle - Hahahaha LOLOLOLOL
Haba,U threw the guy's card away ke.A Brother was just trying to hook up with u now..LOL
How was ur weekedn?
@NB- Hicking went really well, each step I took I was munching m&ms and cashew nuts. It was an easy 4 miles. Didn't feel anything. Mind you I didn't do any stretching exercise, just walking on a very rocky and steep path.
@Dipo: GREAT IFE! Aluta Continua! I was in Ife for 3 years, out of which there was a 1 year strike. I studied Microbiology 2001-2003. Those Awo guys were always on my case, there were so many incidents. That school humbled me for real.
i'm am the queen of falling in public places. not only falling but sliding down stairs as well@ girl i feel you :)
@ Bijou
I hope it was not the Awo Boyz that chased you out o.
Anyway you got admitted in to the school at the same time I graduated from the school.
I can see where your love for God emmanated from ( at least strengthened). Ife always has that effect on people.
@ TLOASCM
yep, you got it! I can now use my signature. Thanx
"Like what he saw" Just that? Did you call the number on the card and inquire about what he saw that got his attention!
Falling is not something I try to envision in my mind, how can a tall 6 ft 4 guy like me fall? damn! that will be mega-hilarious!
@nijadude- that would have been some sight. By the way I threw his card away a few minutes later. Don't mind some silly minded people. A whole fine babe like me fall, he ddn't even say pele. just I lke what I saw give me a call. shiooo..
@Dipo: U're so right when u say, "I can see where your love for God emmanated from ( at least strengthened). Ife always has that effect on people."
My love for God was strengthened there. I was actively involved in ASF and i attended RCF sometimes. I think that school is one of the most religious schools, if there's anything like that.
Awo boyz chase me out ke? Impossible, 'twas just the strikes and all that got me frustrated plus the fact that i was admitted for Micro, and couldn't switch to medicine after my 1st year. Switching courses was banned.
Ok,try and update!
im curious...when you fell...where you wearing a skirt...how did you fall
@diamond - trust you to ask such question. But I wasn't. Its quite bizare to the man to come up with he said. Hence why his card was chucked away.
Please include me in this Ogbono soup recipe. Is it different from the way Yorubas cook theirs?
I think so. Its up to you to tell me if it different. We cook it the same way we make Ukasi, okoro, egusi, uha, odikiko, olugbu and many more.
